I don't like choking on my coffee but many times the laugh is worth it. [;)] All jokes aside the internet is a mess, I can't imagine a programmer, IT professional or any decently intelligent person who can't make CorelDRAW X7 run. Certainly there's old hardware and software considerations that prevent upgrades, especially issues with must have Macros and plugins, but that's not Corel fault. I can't count on my fingers and toes the number of times I read posts and shake my head because the issue is a self inflicted wound. Like wow dude! I just bought one of the most capable graphics application available and I want to run it on a Laptop with 8GB of RAM which I contaminate with internet crap! Then gripe about it! Like building a submarine with screen doors.

It's obvious David is one of those people who can't do much in real life- so uses the internet to attempt to bully and intimidate people with his pencil intelligence and elitist attitude. He has been reported for his abusive and spam posts. Hopefully COrel will not be like Facebook and actually do something about him. In the meantime people, just know with every thing posted here - is just going to feed his ego....

Forum Post: RE: Licensing and migrating to a new machine
The Student version is different than the regular version of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite or CorelDRAW Technical suite., not only for the cont but also for licenses. For example, I believe If you have the Student version of X6 you can't upgrade to the full verison of X7. The full version allows to have the same program installed on more than one computer (ie a work desktop and a Home laptop), since it's supposed that you don't use both at the same time. If your move to another computer it's better to uninstall the program, since you can install it 5 times, if you need to install again you should first uninstall one of the installations. Anyway, if you can't uninstall (ie a hard disk damage) you can install it on other computer, you will loose just one of the 5 installations. But this is a general rule for the full version, I don't know if the Student version use the same criteria.

Forum Post: RE: Graphics Suite x7 is not running in Windows 10.
OK - I'm having this exact same problem with one exception. I bought a new Win8 laptop about 6 months ago, upgraded to Win10 right away ( probably a mistake! ), and then reinstalled CDGS X7 under Win10. The install completed successfully, and I successfully registered the software. But now that I actually try to use it, I get the "stopped working" message. I thought it might have been a flakey install, so I uninstalled and reinstalled, and am still seeing the same issue. Am I going to have to try to drop back to the version of Windows that came on my machine when I bought it ( definitely not my first choice ), or is there a fix for this? Thanks! Tim

You Can Go to Windows web site, you may have to screen chat with someone for a while but they will have someone call you and change it back for You by Screen sharing. ( I went back to Windows 7 myself like that. I had to go into the registry and take somethings out the day after she called me.) If Worst comes to Worst you could format your drive and start over. Hi Kimsark, It may be too late for you but here is a fail-safe solution. It works for me. 0. Delete everything on the C drive. Keep images and documents on external drives. 1. Drop back to CDGS X6. It's rock stable. 2. Drop back to Windows 7. It's rock stable. 3. Make an IMAGE of your C drive. Then you can always RESCUE (i.e. reproduce the working system) should you make the mistake of trying out CDGS X7 again. The IMAGE may come in handy if CDGS X8 is as screwed up as X7. Phil

Hello Phil1923; Going To X6 is one of the last ver. I would tell anyone to go to. X6 Doesn't have font embedding, and that is a BIG item for me. I think X5 would be a better ver. to go to. It is like X4. George

I will definitely try your suggestion. The main issue I wanted to bring up is the problem centered around "Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.10240.16384, time stamp: 0x559f38c3" because 25+ years of software development tell me this is a compatibility issue between the OS and the software. Before getting TOO excited though I will follow your suggestions and see if I can't get it to work.

Forum Post: RE: Coreldraw x7 (64-bit) has stopped working
I would be curious to know what would happen if you made a new user, logged in as that user, and tried to run the program. If it works, it could help isolate the problem to some file or files in the user's profile. If not it would at least partially rule that out. If it were me I would try running it as administrator once just to see what happens, but you can decide for yourself. Is there any common denominator on the three machines like identical video cards? Are the OS's upgraded from an earlier version of the OS, (like win 8 to 10?) Do the systems all have the more or less the same software installed? Are you for some reason using a 32bit os on any of them?

Forum Post: RE: Coreldraw x7 (64-bit) has stopped working
As stated earlier two of the machines are brand new, Christmas presents, running windows 10. My machine is about 4 years old but is probably the best machine of the three, I earn a living with computers and spared no expense. I have tried running as admin to no avail and all three machines are 64 bit. All the machines have similar software, office ect, but my machine has a few versions of visual studio and SQL 2012 plus several other "development" packages. Let's not forget, none of these machines have ever had Corel loaded and running on them before and Corel has NEVER successfully started. My machine did have Corel X4 when I was running windows 8.1 but because my 8.1 was running the Enterprise OS I had to dump it and reinstall windows 7 in order to get the free windows 10 upgrade. I'm going to follow David's suggestion as far as cleaning the machine, reloading the software, rebooting, and then running the updates. Now the two updates I have are CDGSX7Update6 and CDGSX7U6HF1 so if there is something else please speak up.

Forum Post: RE: Graphics Suite x7 is not running in Windows 10.
Hi George, No argument about that. I never embed anything so I didn't notice. I just create TIFs in Photopaint and Draw and drop them into MS Publisher. I preferred X4 to X5 because it had a color management system. CDGS no longer has a color "management" system. (Neither does Photoshop.) You just get to pick the default color space for the working document. You have to chase all over the operating system to get at the pieces. CDGS X6 can't even recognize a digital camera photo's profile. You get a "MIssing Profile" message. Luckily, there is very little difference between sRGB and Adobe RGB (1998) for real life scenes. Of course, all of this is a tempest in a tea pot for Corel. I must be the only one in the world who is using Photopaint unless forced to do so by "Edit bitmap" in DRAW. I wonder if Corel is going to release X8 before anyone OPENs it. Phil

Do you mean that you get that option if you import a bitmap and not when you convert an object to bitmap ? If so its weird. I have seen this happen once to me in X4, with any bitmap converted or imported and that has some registry tweak. Let me check if I can find the registry entry that requires to be edited.

Forum Post: RE: CutContour line. creating it, finding my Pallette
To create a spot color in a palette: Click the little arrow on the palette and then "Edit Color". This will open the Palette editor. Select any process color, or create a new via "Add Color", give it a name (in this case CutContour) and then click the "Treat As" box and change to Spot. You'll notice that the color now has a small square in the bottom left corner. This indicates that it is a spot color. A spot color is primarily recognized by its name and creates a separate plate when doing color separations. The color mix can not be changed like it can for an RGB or a CMYK for example.

retzcat There's probably nothing wrong with your computer, at least it is not responsible for the crashes. There could be some kind of conflict of course, something we can't say for sure. What we can say though, is that your problem will most likely not be solved, not in X8 and not in X9 either, unless we give the techs at Corel something specific to work with. I suggest you upload the file somewhere, and give us detailed instructions what to do to make it crash (sounds like it is repeatable), so we can test on our systems. Either it won't crash and the problem may be in your setup, or it does and we can forward the file and instructions to Corel. Please help us help them make Draw/PP better.

Are you working on a clean install? Hold F8 while starting Draw to reset the workspace. Not that I think it will help but it is the easiest way to get rid of corrupt workspaces (which are known to cause problems). You may also try to delete the default templates for new documents, CORELDRAW.CDT and CORELDRAW_RGB.CDT (C:\Users\ \AppData\Roaming\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X7\Draw).

Hi Guys, Same problem here: "CorelDRAW X7 (64-Bit) has stopped working". - Reformatted hard drive with new Windows 10 64-Bit install and all windows updates applied to v10.0.10586 Build 10586. Bare install/no bloatware. - Antivirus disabled then new install CorelDraw followed by both updates to get to v17.6.0.1021. - CorelDRAW opened only after applying updates with new, default settings. - Running as administrator, again with AV disabled. - Running Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4500U CPU @ 1.80GHz, 2401 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) 8GB RAM - Note: same version of CorelDRAW was running prior to reformatting and reinstall. I'm not sure how clean an install environment should be, but this seems to be about as good as it gets! Event log below. Apologies for the data, I was not sure what was/wasn't relevant. Any help greatly appreciated. :) Johnathan. _________________________________________ Log Name: Application Source: Application Error Date: 4/01/2016 8:27:09 AM Event ID: 1000 Task Category: (100) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Description: Faulting application name: CorelDRW.exe, version: 17.6.0.1021, time stamp: 0x55dba036 Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.10586.0, time stamp: 0x5632d1de Exception code: 0x80000003 Fault offset: 0x00000000000c2d62 Faulting process ID: 0x4ec Faulting application start time: 0x01d146869df0b809 Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X7\Programs64\CorelDRW.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\KERNELBASE.dll Report ID: 01b8f6eb-864c-4eb5-a7ab-d7905123c8dd Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Event Xml: 1000 2 100 0x80000000000000 2315 Application JohnathansUltrabook CorelDRW.exe 17.6.0.1021 55dba036 KERNELBASE.dll 10.0.10586.0 5632d1de 80000003 00000000000c2d62 4ec 01d146869df0b809 C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X7\Programs64\CorelDRW.exe C:\Windows\system32\KERNELBASE.dll 01b8f6eb-864c-4eb5-a7ab-d7905123c8dd
Isn't .cdr a vector file format. Isn't a vector file a mathematical description of the image without any dimensions.
Yes, I understand what you means. If I create a vector drawing, it's supposed there's no limit, I could enlarge or reduce it all that I want. Anyway, not all on CorelDRAW is just a vector. Think about a texture fill or postscript fill, and imagine that somebody create a rectangle with 100 meters lenght, and apply this kind of fill. It will require a big amount of memory. Imagine to add a transparency on multiply mode to this object, or add a Drop Shadow. Even manage a text proportionally to this page could be very difficult. I know, computers are now more powerful than 10 years ago, then I suppose that today it will be possible to enlarge the page, but maybe there should be a limit of rendering for a better display btw the question is why somebody could need a larger page? I made the floorplane of my entire house at real size and I don't need more than this
