Hi Shelley, You have to be more specific which background you are referring to. 1. In Photopaint X6, the "application" background is the area outside the active window. In X6, it's set by Windows as described above. 2. In Photopaint X6, you may see a blank area around the image but within the active window. I don't believe that this area has a name, but it is certainly the background for the image. You can set the color of this blank area as described above. When you SAVE or SAVE AS, you save only the image itself. Neither the application background or the blank area around the image is saved. You have to trim to the image if you do not want to save the black background added to the lowest layer. I don't know how any of this is handled in Flickr. Phil
