thank you for your reply hywelharris; all the things you mention are exactly what happens when the blending effect is working. If you read my post, i am describing a situation where the blending effect is NOT working. As you can see from the images and description: 1) a blend between objects of the same spot color is producing process colors that don't even match the spot color. All versions in the past would have made the blended objects the same spot color as the originals. and 2) i show 2 spot color black objects that when the next time i opened my file, the objects were no longer black, but rather a color lifted from the documents palette.
