If you import an image that use file compression, such as a JPG, you should remember that the file size is 1 Mb for example, when you import it the uncompressed file size could be 10 Mb or 15 Mb according the compress ratio. No mtter if you enlarge or reduce the image on CorelDRAW, the file size will be the same unless you resample or convert to bitmap with a new resolution. The most common reason for the bigger files are the high resolution bitmaps. You don't need to "trace" it or convert to vector, it's enough to resample. if you want, you can place a file sample here for test.
