I wonder why nobody actually answered this question, instead saying the spacebar is binded to something elseor to just use the middle mouse button.
I suppose it's because when someone works in a manner for a long time, it is pleasant and feels no need to change. I have used both systems, and in truth, never needed the space bar in CorelDRAW. Some years ago I tried the option to customize you mention, but it did not get the expected result. For example, for Pan is more easy for me just to hold the wheel of the mouse, ot use Ctrl+arrows. Also, on X7 you can use Ctrl + and Ctrl - for zoom in / zoom out, F2, F3, F4, etc. Anyway, I believe that it will be useful for illustrator users to have the option of use the Ctrl+spacebar, for the same reason: after use the same command for a long time, it becomes the best way to work
