Just changing to LAB doesn't affect the values of the base image, no matter what it began life as unless it was an image greater than 24-bit. But the same holds true of going from a greater to lesser bit-depth anyway. "Frequently" is a moving target. How many times is "frequent"? I think switching to LAB and back again doesn't do any harm if going from sRGB --> LAB --> sRGB. But do remember that I do not use PP for much beyond creating/manipulating duo-tone images and the like. I personally don't like PP's need to convert to a LAB image just to use LAB adjustments. I also don't like the fixed nature of the dialogs, nor do I like how easy it is to blow highlights or shadows without running the cursor around an image looking at the Info dialog. Maybe there is a means of marking extreme values. Dunno. Haven't looked well enough perhaps. Profile conversion of an image is a different thing. I change to a destination profile for a final copy (or near final) every day. I don't "trust" the receiving software as much as I should to handle the conversion to the output profile enough. I did a series of ads over the weekend for printing in European newspapers. For the images, I used the "Convert to Profile" in my image editor before placing them in the layout application. Why? Because I am a control freak and I know this process works for me and newspapers that are printing them. Mike
