"flatten layers" is a very common problem with Adobe programs, such as to send a PSD with 900+layers, wuth effects, transparencies, etc, or an illustrator file with hundreds of layers, some blocked, hidden, etc. If you create the book with CorelDRAW (and it's supposed that all the content is right), you don't have this problem, then you don't need to flatten layers because images are already flattened. Just go to File / Publish to PDF, choose "editing", add Bleed and Cropmarks, and send the file.
